Are you a bit of a control freak, but also craving a little "Me time"? Then a grocery delivery service might just be the answer to get that quality time with yourself you've been looking for. Here's how my experience with Milkandeggs.com went.
Ok, I'm just going to admit it. I'm a bit of a control freak, so the idea of having my groceries delivered to me kind of freaked me out. I mean - What if they don't choose the best pack of berries for me or if they send me bruised apples or avocados and the meat (don't get me started on the meat - It's got to be the right pack with just the right amount of meat to fat ratio). I need to know what I'm bringing home, but at the same time when you need to micro manage everything there doesn't leave a lot of time for myself, so I opened myself up to the idea of having my groceries delivered to gain a little me time and what better week than Mother's Day week to start? I looked in to delivery from MilkandEggs.com and placed my first order and scheduled it for the Friday morning of Mother's Day weekend. Which meant no market stop for me that week and I had time to go get myself a manicure and pedicure instead.
Deliveries are between 5:00 and 7:00 a.m. It's a bit early, but I get why that's the best time. This is the time people are up getting ready for work, so it gives you time to get your groceries before you leave home in the morning and they don't have to sit there all day long in the sun until you come back home from work. So Friday morning, they delivered just as promised at 5:18 a.m. my groceries had arrived. I wasn't ready to get up yet so I brought them in and just sat them on the table and went back to bed. They come with ice packs so it was safe to leave them out for a bit.
When I was up and ready to put away groceries I got to take a look at the quality of the produce and I was happy with it all. Everything was vibrant fresh and nothing bruised at all, and I'm happy to report the berries were also very pretty. The bread looked great- very fresh and the meat also came vacuum sealed in perfect storing portions, but it wasn't until later when I actually cooked and used the product that I appreciated the great quality of it all.
The ground meat patties were mess free they were unlike the packages from the store that come with that huge meat tampon and still make a bloody mess. The patties were one of the items I was iffy about ordering because I always make my own so buying them pre-pattied just felt lazy, but I bought them anyway and I couldn't have been happier with them. The meat quality was perfect and they were just the perfect blend of meat to fat - they oozed juicy flavor when I bit into them, the whole family loved them and It saved me time as well which was the whole point of this experiment. These are my hamburger patties from now on and the Brioche burger buns too. If I order only one thing from MilkandEggs.com again. It would definitely be these Brioche buns from Bread Los AngelesBakery. We have burger night often at home and we have experimented with all kinds of buns, from the bread aisle and bakeries, but never have I ever been able to find a restaurant quality brioche bun like this. They were soft and delicious and held up well to the very last bite.
The regular ground beef was also great quality I made a chili bean soup out of it and it wasn't fatty at all but it wasn't so fat free that it got stuck to the pan either. It's honestly the best quality ground beef I've ever purchased and it was perfect with the Stonewall Kitchen Cornbread mix I ordered.
The Tilapia was fresh and flaky held up really well while cooking, but it was so fluffy and light when I ate it in the tacos and fried fish sandwiches I made.
This is definitely something I could get used to. I loved everything I ordered so the next time I order the products I purchased are saved in my history and I can just reorder the whole basket all over again, with just one simple click and that's a hell of a lot simpler then getting in my car, picking everything aisle to aisle, waiting in a long lines, forgetting my grocery bags in the car and then having to buy new ones or take everything to the car with no bags. I mean why go through all of that if you don't have to? Simplify your life and have your groceries delivered right to your door
Here are a few other meals & snacks I was able to make with my Milk and Eggs order that I really enjoyed!
Lemon curd:
That I used on these Blueberry Lemon Curd Waffles I made. Blueberries are also from Milkandeggs.com
Candied Ginger: I was really impressed by the quality of this ginger. It was spicy and really crispy, not too fibrous - I thought it was perfect to make candied ginger. I ate these as snacks and also used them to garnish some Moscow mules I made later in the week.
Breakfast Sandwiches:
More Breakfast:
Applegate Chicken & Apple Sausage, Chino Valley Organic eggs and potatoes
one of my favorite little snacks were the English Muffins with pistachio butter and orange blossom honey; It tasted like I was having baklava without all the work.
